Dell hyperconvergence: visibility and efficiency

There are the hyperconverged solutions of Dell Technologies at the basis of the digital transformation of Carron, a group active in real estate construction with almost 50 years of history, which has decided to modernize its IT infrastructure, which no longer meets the new needs.

In fact, the infrastructure had by now proved to be complex to manage, and did not offer the performance necessary to support a new ERP management system that was expected to be adopted. Not only that: desktop solutions, with local storage, did not provide the company’s 245 employees with flexible access to operational data.

The solution

Working with Infoteam, Partner of Dell Technologies, Carron has found an answer to its challenges by adopting a complete solution, firstly articulated in the Dell EMC VxRail hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) for the new ERP, running VMware vSphere, and vSAN with Intel CPU for achieve high performance.

The company has also adopted Dell Networking switches and Dell PowerEdge servers with Nvidia Grid CPUs for virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), including additional PowerEdge servers for backup and disaster recovery. In addition, thanks to Dell Financial Services (DFS), Carron did not have to incur any capital costsand DFS has postponed the payment of the first installment of the lease by six months.

To accelerate the adoption of the solution, Carron also used Dell EMC ProDeploy Plus services, the deployment offering that includes expert installation, standard on-site configuration and multi-vendor integration services. In addition, it has subscribed to Dell EMC ProSupport services for post-installation assistance.

Tangible benefits

The new ERP running on the Dell VxRail infrastructure now enables Carron to gain far better access to corporate data, reducing report generation times by 89%. “ The month-end financial reporting is completed in just 2 days instead of several weeks, and this helps us make more focused decisions,” underlines Mauro Zanesco, Carron’s Chief Information Officer. Not only that: people now have secure access to data anytime, anywhere through the virtualized desktop infrastructure.

VxRail infrastructure is easier to manage and reduces administration time by 50%, so that IT staff can focus on more strategic tasks. The backup and disaster recovery capabilities allow you to recover your system in minutes, whereas previously it took a week.

But above all, with the new hyperconverged solution, Carron was able to reduce the overall management cost, the TCO, for its basic IT infrastructure by 20%. “ The Dell-Infoteam project made it possible to align IT with our business objectives, to offer greater efficiency and continued success in the years to come, ” concludes Mauro Zanesco.
